Join us this September for an inspiring tour of Farm Yard Brew Co, based at Moss Edge Farm in Cockerham – a family farm that has successfully redefined its future by brewing up something bold and brilliant.
Farming has been at the heart of Moss Edge for over five generations, but when Steven Holmes realised that traditional routes weren’t sustainable, he took a bold leap – from tending cows to crafting hops. What began with a homebrew hobby in the farmhouse kitchen soon evolved into a fully-fledged brewery with a state-of-the-art 2,000L brew plant and a loyal following.
Over the past eight years, Farm Yard Brew Co has grown from strength to strength. With support from family, friends, and the Rural Development Programme, Steve and his team have built a thriving business combining farming resilience with creative brewing. Now producing an ever-evolving range of beers, hosting live music, street food, and even their own mini beer festival (FYA), the brewery stands as a testament to what innovative diversification can achieve.
On the evening, we’ll hear from Steven about the journey – the risks, the reality, and the rewards – as well as take a behind-the-scenes tour of the brewery and taproom. We’ll learn how the farm generates 50% of its own electricity through solar power, how branding evolved to reflect the boldness of the beers, and why the Taproom was crowned Best UK Craft Taproom in 2022.
This event is ideal for farmers, entrepreneurs, and anyone interested in diversification, direct-to-consumer strategies, or the intersection of tradition and innovation.
Come for the knowledge – stay for the beer!
