A group of farmers has captured hearts across the UK after delivering a powerful performance on Britain’s Got Talent, earning themselves a coveted golden buzzer and a place in the live semi-finals.
The Hawstone Farmers’ Choir, made up of more than 30 farmers and agricultural workers from across the country, took to the stage with a moving rendition of Elbow’s One Day Like This. Broadcast on ITV and ITVX on Saturday 21 March, the performance quickly became one of the standout moments of the series so far.
As the song built to its climax, the audience rose to their feet, with judge Amanda Holden visibly emotional as she pressed the golden buzzer, sending the group straight through to the next stage of the competition.
The choir was brought together by Jeremy Clarkson, whose work on Clarkson’s Farm has shone a spotlight on the realities of modern farming. Following the performance, Clarkson took to Instagram to share his reaction, describing the moment as deeply emotional and expressing his pride in the group.
The performance has resonated widely, with viewers praising the choir for its authenticity and for representing rural Britain on such a prominent platform.
Beyond the stage, the group represents something much bigger. At a time when farmers are facing increasing pressures - from rising costs and labour shortages to ongoing policy changes - the choir has become a symbol of unity within the industry.
For many involved, farming can be an isolating profession. The choir offers not only a creative outlet, but also a support network, bringing people together and highlighting the importance of connection and mental wellbeing in rural communities.
Their golden buzzer moment was more than just success in a talent show - it was a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience and spirit within British farming.
