Farmers, farm workers and members of the wider rural community are being encouraged to swap wellies for warm-up vocals as plans emerge for a brand-new community choir in Cheshire.
Agricultural Chaplaincy is exploring the idea of creating a “Sing Together in Cheshire” group, bringing together people involved in farming, agriculture and rural businesses from across Cheshire and the Wirral.
Inspired by the success of the Hawstone Farmers’ Choir, the initiative aims to provide a relaxed and welcoming space where people can connect, unwind and enjoy singing together - with no auditions, no pressure and no requirement to read music.
Organisers say the choir would be open to everyone connected with rural life, including farmers, contractors, vets, agricultural suppliers, family members and those who have retired from the industry.
As well as offering a fun evening out, the group hopes to help tackle the isolation that can sometimes come with farming life. Benefits highlighted by the organisers include building friendships, boosting wellbeing and resilience, and providing an opportunity to use different talents away from the day-to-day demands of work.
Agricultural Chaplaincy is currently gauging interest and says that if enough people come forward, a first get-together will be organised. The colourful campaign, titled “Sing Together in Cheshire”, asks a simple question: Can Cheshire come together and produce its own choir?
The organisers certainly think so.
Anyone interested in taking part is invited to comment on the Agricultural Chaplaincy Facebook post or send a message to register their interest. Have you got a hidden singing talent? Or would you simply enjoy an evening of music and company with like-minded people? Get in touch!
