Staffordshire Young Farmers Club (YFC) celebrated a major victory at the English Winter Fair, taking home the prestigious Overall Team Cup in the Stock and Carcase Judging Competition on Sunday, 16 November. The event, held at Staffordshire County Showground, attracted over 150 competitors from 19 teams across England and Wales.
The one-day contest showcased exceptional talent in judging live lambs, beef, and carcasses, with Staffordshire YFC emerging as the top team after scoring an impressive 660 points. Glamorgan YFC secured second place, while Gloucestershire and Shropshire YFC shared third.
Competition organiser Cathie Hurdman praised the success of the event: “It’s been such a positive day, with members from across the country competing and enjoying the excellent facilities here in Staffordshire.”
Sponsored by IAE, the UK’s leading livestock equipment manufacturer, the competition highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent in agriculture. IAE’s Lorna Thomson said: “We’re proud to support these classes and inspire the next generation of farmers.”
The English Winter Fair committee confirmed plans to host the event again next year, continuing its tradition of promoting skills and excellence among Young Farmers.
