Farmers from every corner of the UK are gearing up to join a national Day of Unity on Monday 24 November as they come together to highlight growing concerns over changes to agricultural inheritance tax and the future of family farms.
The movement, born from a European day of solidarity, has been organised by major farming groups working in concert to demonstrate unity, strength and shared purpose within the sector.
Beginning at around 10 am, the event will feature peaceful convoys of tractors, farm vehicles parked on overhead road bridges with warning lights, and other visible displays of support on major routes throughout the day.
Organisers say the purpose is two-fold: firstly, to make the farming voice heard as the Autumn Budget approaches, and secondly, to reaffirm the value of family farms, domestic food production and rural livelihoods. They believe that by acting together, farmers can more effectively engage with policymakers, the public, and media to emphasise how vital agriculture is to the UK’s economy and food security.
With questions still swirling around reforms to Inheritance Tax (IHT) and Agricultural Property Relief (APR), the Day of Unity hopes to spotlight how proposed changes could impact generational farms, rural communities and the supply chain. By demonstrating solidarity, participants aim to show that the sector won’t be sidelined or undermined.
For further details on how local groups are planning for the day, interested parties are encouraged to contact their regional farming union or campaign group.
