Rea Valley Tractors (RVT), a long-established dealer of tractors and agricultural machinery, has entered administration along with its parent company Dunstall Holdings, after weeks of uncertainty over its future. Out of 169 employees, 149 have now lost their positions, with the business expected to be wound down.
RVT, which operated seven depots across the Midlands, North West England and Wales, had been under mounting financial pressure and difficult trading conditions.
For the year ending 31 December 2023, the company reported a pre-tax loss of £6.66 million. Despite efforts to sell all or part of the business, no viable offers were received.
The situation worsened earlier this month when RVT’s dealership agreement with JCB came to an end. JCB has since appointed other dealers to take on the territory.
Tim Higgins, Edward Williams, and Jane Steer of PricewaterhouseCoopers have been appointed joint administrators. Higgins described RVT as “one of the most recognisable names in the local agricultural industry” and acknowledged the disruption caused for both employees and customers.
Suppliers are moving quickly to support farmers in the area. New Holland has confirmed that warranty, servicing, and equipment sales remain available through its authorised dealer network, while Kuhn Farm Machinery has appointed RVW Pugh as its new dealer in the region with immediate effect.
